People are spending more time on their smartphones than ever. No doubt our day begins from checking our phones first which is true for me as well as I was checking out Spectrum specials on my iPhone moments ago. And that is precisely why the majority of businesses have apps. They know they have to be where their customers are!

If you are an entrepreneur, know that a business app will drive more sales for you.  So make sure you consider the following before working on one:

1: Conduct Market Research

Market research is the prerequisite of creating a business. This helps understand your target market, their likes, dislikes, and competition out there. It also gives you more insights on what initiatives to take for making your website successful.

2: Define the Budget

Every business has a budget within which they have to complete the app development and marketing. This budget determines the features, user interface, and user experience. You might have to outsource a team for app development which can range anywhere between $3000 and $50K.

3: Determine Your Target Audience

Every mobile app has a target audience. You have to define yours for your app. Your team will then suggest features that fit the taste of that demographic.

The local area where your app is to be launched matters too. For example, if your target audience is in the USA, you would have to release both Android and iOS versions of your app.

4: Android vs. iOS

Which platform would you like to choose for your app? Android or iOS? This depends on your budget and the preference of your target audience. If the place where you are launching the app has more iPhone users, stick to the iOS platform. Depending on your target audience, you might have to release two versions of your app – Android and iOS.

5: Work On the Design

A mobile app with a good design removes all obstacles from the user’s way. Come up with a plan to create an intuitive design. You need a design that engages your audience. Here are some ways to do that:

         Focus on Content

Get rid of all unnecessary elements from the user interface that might distract the user from focusing on the content.

         Use Single Input Field

More than two fields confuse customers. Frustrations like this might make the user abandon your app. it’s better to use a single input field.

Use Just the Right Amount of Push Notifications

Don’t forget to add push notifications to let the user know your app is sitting on their phone. But don’t bombard them either. They would have no choice but to uninstall your app.

6: Build Minimum Viable Product

If you would like to test your market out before it’s launched in the market, create its minimum viable product. This version has the most critical features only. It is like the beta version of your app. It will answer some of these important questions:

  • What is the most crucial feature of the app?
  • Which features are a priority?
  • What ore features can you add?
  • How does the app solve a customer’s problem?

And the list goes on…

7: Determine Ways to Earn From It

Some of you might be wondering isn’t it too early to plan that? Well, the answer is no. Before building the product, you must outline ways to monetize it.

The most common way of earning revenue from a mobile app is through in-app ads that pay you on pay per click basis. Keep in mind customers don’t like ads in apps.

If that’s not a viable option, you can also add in-app purchases or keep a freemium and premium option.

8: Security

The customers we are dealing with today are very much concerned about the safety of their information. Our smartphones are gold mine of information cybercriminals are drooling over. They contain our bank accounts, passwords, location and lot of personal information. Data protection has is urgent for developers and users.

Make sure your mobile app is secure and free from malicious content. If users are not impressed with the security, your idea will never take off.

9: Know Your Competition

Always stay one step ahead of your competition. For that, keep an eye on what they are offering, what they, how their product is different from yours, their features, and other relevant information.

10: Create an App Marketing Plan

How would you like to market your app? Setting your foot into the app store isn’t going to invite customers. You have to let your target audience there’s something critical out there for them.

You would have to test different advertising techniques to boost conversions. Social media marketing and SEO activities are pertinent. If you must hire a marketing firm to build a name out there for your business app, go for it. See if this expense could be added to the marketing budget.

Building a mobile app is easy but it takes effort to build the one that’s liked by users.

I am a huge fan of the Spectrum app because of its simple design and FAQ section. , and it reduces the need to call the Spectrum service center. You get all answers from within the app. You too can try solving customers’ problems like that with your business app.
